Back to School Again (Metro)

Back to school already…

Another school year begins with the same old yearly routine.  And thank goodness for that.   With all the commotion, it makes sense to use the same systems you have implemented throughout the years.  Having a system down pat can definitely bring down the stress levels.
Some of the common mistakes students and parents make when it comes to organizing for back to school are;

  • Gathering necessary supplies on the first day of school.  Panic Attack!  Especially if you are starting right after Labour Day.  Note there will never be a good selection at the stores on that day.
  • Students are so excited to start their summer break that they don’t take the time to sort out their bags of work and supplies from the previous year.
  • Many Students purchase things they probably have buried somewhere else and as a result duplicate supplies unnecessarily.
  • Looking your best for the first day of school might be difficult if you have outgrown your clothes during the summer and haven’t realized it until the day of.
  • Don’t forget about doing your laundry prior.

There is a lot to be said about being organized for back to school and starting off on with the right foot.

Try the following organizing tips for a success school year.

  1. Have multiple copies of your class schedule, one for your locker, one for your binder and one for home.
  2. Have 2 full sets of supplies, one for home and one for school.
  3. Make a buddy system for homework, have the contact numbers marked on each of your class schedules.
  4. Zone a space specifically for homework and conducive for studying.
  5. Manage and balance your time.  I.e. limit phone and internet chatting.
  6. Go to bed earlier, wake up earlier.
  7. Take 10 minutes everyday to empty and organize your school bag and papers for the next day.
  8. Categorize your binder per subject.
  9. Must haves, a hole puncher, eraser, pencil sharper, notebook, pencil.
  10. Clean, defragment and debug your computer for optimum uses.
  11. Hoping everyone had a good start this year.  Make everyday count and stay organized.
